2k Series
Our most popular self-feeding drill. These light and compact drills are perfect for most drilling jobs.
Overview
The 2000 Series AutoDrill is a pneumatic stroke self-feeder drill. It is the most commonly sold drill machine in AutoDrill’s lineup. AutoDrill offers custom SkipFeed and PeckFeed options for their units in many cases.
Features
- Self-feeding drill capabilities
- Self-feeding tap capabilities (Control Feed Tapper)
- Multiple HydroSpeed feed control options
- Can receive and drive multi-drill spindle attachments
- Thrust forces to 500 lbs on shop air
- Multiple motor drive options and configurations
- Spindles speeds from 80 to 6,000 RPM
- Spindle stroke options up to 9.000″
- Up to 8″ of HydroSpeed feed control
- Built-in precision depth control
- All position mounting options
- Standard Key-Type Chucks
- Precision ER Style Collet Chucks (ER16, ER20, ER25 and ER32)
- Electric or Air Motor drive options up to 3 HP
The HydroSpeed unit provides rapid advance and precise control during the critical drilling process and breakthrough. SkipFeed HydroSpeed units are available for pipe drilling or other multi-wall drill processes. PeckFeed units are available for deep hole drilling where the depth of the hole requires that you remove the tooling to clear the chips or drilling debris. Maintenance is very simple with these units as their component design allows certain parts to be interchanged or replaced without disturbing the drill body or your custom fixture.

2k Series Motor Configurations
AutoDrill suggests three phase motors be used whenever possible. This is because they are often more reliable and energy efficient than the single phase and pneumatic options available. Hydraulic motors are not as common on this size unit. If three phase power is unavailable, a single phase motor option is offered or you can also choose an air motor drive. This is especially helpful for all pneumatic shops or those that have a space constraint on their fixture, etc.
On this page, you will see some basic motor configurations that we offer. The electric motor is shown below as an example. The air motor options are similar. Motors for the 2000 Series AutoDrill are offered from 1/3 HP to 2 HP. We can also offer primary gear reduction for those applications that require a very slow RPM rate.
Most 2000 Series self-feed AutoDrill units utilize high quality, anti-slip HTD timing belt and pulley set-ups. These are toothed sets for positive drive action.
Typical Motor & Automatic Drill Drive Arrangements:
This shows the “UT” and “UR” motor configuration. These are the most common. “UT” is often for horizontal drilling and “UR” generally for vertical. The motor is generally configurable in four positions with this mounting plate. Custom positions also available upon request.
This shows the “USL” and “USR” configuration. This puts the drill motor off to the side for clearance and convenience purposes.
This shows the “ZT” and “ZR” configuration. “ZT” is common for horizontal drilling operations. “ZR” is common for vertical operations. Both can be set up to put the motor out of the way of other processes. Custom rotation positions available upon request.
Direct Drive configuration. The output speed of the motor is often the same as the tool RPM with this configuration.
Custom Multiple Drive Arrangement. If you have a special need, please contact us. We can often meet that need. Some other offerings include off-set drives, close C-C drives, right angle drives, etc.
Electric Motor Advantages:
- Industry standard
- Many different suppliers available
- Inexpensive to purchase
- Saves you the most money in many cases
- Very reliable
- Simple to maintain
- Constant and predictable RPM at the tool
- VFD / Inverter rated options available for different RPM rates
- Low noise operation
- A very “green” option
Air Motor Advantages:
- Weighs less
- Small size
- Can possibly alter RPM rate easily while in use
- No electrical power is needed except at compressor
- Compatible with wood and plastic “pneumatic only” shops
- Inert gasses can be utilized for explosion-proof or other critical operations
2k Series Annular Cutting Machine
AutoDrill offers a machine specifically set-up for use with common annular cutters such as the Hougen Rotabroach or Jancy Slugger offerings. AutoDrill’s 2100H Series self-feeder drill is a good match when you must drill large holes through plate materials or filter pipe, etc. This specific self-feeder drill and your annular cutter removes material with less energy by only drilling the outer portion of the hole and dropping a plug. The power required is sometimes up to 71% less than removing the material with standard drill tooling. This makes this machine a “green” option compared to standard drilling processes. This unit can often be configured to run in any orientation.
Hougen, Jancy and others can often offer the annular cutter units with a positive plug ejection system. This helps make sure that the slug of material that is cut by the hole-saw like tool is ejected to complete the operation. See below for a set-up that uses the reverse thrust of the AutoDrill Self-Feeder to eject the plug (hundreds of pounds of thrust). Rather than just a simple spring ejection system which can often fail and cause costly down time to your process, this option helps guarantee your process runs smoothly and quickly.
AutoDrill will gladly discuss the advantages and details associated with this highly efficient method of drilling holes.
Annular cutters and self-feed units equipped with this type of energy saving tooling can be used for the following applications:
- Structural steel drilling operations
- Plate drilling operations
- Larger diameter pipe drilling operations
- Well pipe perforation (filter pipe)
- Helical pier manufacturing
- Sheet metal drilling
- Fastener removal (drill around the fastener and “pop” the plug out)
- Multi spindle drill head operations
- And many more
2k Series AutoTap
The Self-Feeding Auto-Tap models gives you the excellent AutoDrill 2100 unit as a starting platform. Then we add a self-reversing tap head. This even allows a single unit to be used for both drilling and tapping in some cases. Because of the self-reversing mechanism, there is no need for the motor to change direction. The Auto-Tap is capable of any thread configuration within its capacity range without any internal changes. No longer is it necessary to have an individual lead screw for each thread pitch. The unit can be configured quickly to work for multiple size or pitch tap tools. This keeps the cost reasonable and the operation setup to a minimum.
Here are just some of the Control-Feed Auto-Tap features and options:
- Only AutoDrill offers the Control Feed advantage!
- Dual direction feed control for precise entry and exit
- Lower cost than servo or lead screw tappers
- Greater flexibility as you can change to another tap size quickly
- Positive forward and reverse drive
- Available for RH or LH thread operations
- Ability to drive more than a single tap at once (gang drill or multi-drill heads holding 2+ taps)
- Optional entry cushion available
- Reliable for re-threading (thread chasing) operations
- Compatible with cut or thread form (roll tap) operations
- Three models handle up to 5/8″ capacity
- Optional SkipFeed for DRAP or fast cycle time applications
Auto-Tap Standard Selection
- Auto-Tap Rx30 (up to 1/4″)
- Auto-Tap Rx II 50 (up to 1/2″)
